  5. fucken MC blows. Ruining the tunes. when are people going to learn that DNB does not need an MC. I know this has been talked about a million times but for real. DJs need to start telling the MCs that they arent welcome. was hoping to burn this to a CD for the ride but nope.

  7. i think mcs are alright BUT they should be there to complement the DJ. Aswell i rekon it helps alot when the Mc knows the tunes and not do his own thing all over the place not careing what tune is on.

  10. I agree with the complaints about MCs. I cannot stand the current trend in MC’ing in the world of DnB – the fast-paced, one-tone rhyme that seems to have become so popular.

    It doesn’t add anything to it; it simply ruins the music. The same is happening here in our scene in Denver. There is an MC which I won’t name, but he makes so much noise trying to rap over the music that often he overshadows the DJ and his music, and ultimately deprives people of a good experience.

    I think that if people cannot add to the atmosphere that the DJ is setting with his music like Conrad does with Bukem, then they have absolutely no place in DnB.

  14. there are two dif styles of mc’ing imo..breakin it down. i cannot fault Mc LowQui for instance who literally compliments the music, he’s versatile, he can sing and has a great range as well as free styles and his lyrics are meaningful, when you get a combo of beautiful music and a top class mc like that it can SERIOUSLY BLOW YOU AWAY, its like the icing on the cake so to speek. then theres the other kind of mc.

    this reminds me of a good story. Probably about 5 years ago, Andy C came in town with MC GQ. Seriously every tune Andy dropped, GQ called the rewind. This prevented any kind of flow from forming. I was drunk as shit so I grabbed GQ aside and told him to stop calling rewinds every track. Needless to say, he was pissed but he didnt call nearly as many rewinds after that.

    Yeah I agree with you, Bukem and Conrad should be some kind of role model for dj’s and mc’s performing together. The way they complement each other is simply amazing and very enjoyable to listen to. There are lots of great mc’s who can pull that trick off as well.

    I think a good mc can really add an extra dimension to a dj’s set. Sadly, there are loads of fakers and posers, who love hearing themselves a little bit too much. It’s just a shame that mc’s are being given a bad name because of those clowns.

    I took this up recently on the FWD blog and got shot down quick. I dont get it, the only pro-MC argument that I see that can possible be considered is that “a party needs a host”. I call BS. This is not true. In NYC I went to many DnB parties throughout the 90’s and there was never a “host” and the parties were sick. The idea of a host is fine, but a stated above various times, lets not ruin DnB and Dubstep with this wackness.

    Leave MCing to oldskool hiphop. This is not hiphop, its not rap music. 99% of the MC’s out there in the DnB and Dubstep scene suck. This is not a personal attack on the person. It is however a direct attack on the disentegration of a legitimate style of music/culture (hiphop) being applied to other genres of music (dnb & dubstep) very ineffectively. This needs to stop. Please.

  27. cant be arsed to start ranting in detail but I really dont understand why MCs are booked.. do the promoters listen to them beforehand? If they had listened to this awful DJ Trig character then Im sure they would have told him to f**k right off… He is truely appalling and yet another example of an arrogant prick who loves the sound of his own voice ruining the music..

    Who the fuck says that every D&B night/set has to have some council estate rapstar wannabe dribbling pikey shit over quality music… at least keep the crap to jump-up at raves… most of the people are on pills so dont notice anyway.. But why are they ruining the deeper side of D&B? MCs are NOT needed.. The MUSIC speaks for itself so let us enjoy it without the shit spitting.

    On a plus side MC SP is good and Lowqui is always a good addition.. and Conrad (as mentioned before) is an excellent MC alongside Bukem

  39. Rohan is a man of a high quality, as we can see from Bassbin and the producers on his dubs. But I for one, like mcing during a set. If the mc is lyrical and musical then the fit is hot. Some people have commented on Conrad alongside Bukem and i would have to agree with them. I would just ask that the mcs cease with the west-indian accent when they are clearly not wes-indian. It sortof sound like me, a dude from Boston, Ma, talking like I bloke from Nottingham.

    Great mix, actually really really great mix. Emcing? Eh, not so big on what was showcased in the set but I can still vibe to it.

    Could you guys imagaine a emcee doing their thing to, say, a Seba or Paradox record? That would be interesting.

    I’ve always been a house head 4 x 4, or tech but I’ve come back around to D-n-b within the last 6 months….it’s gotten so much better then what I used to remember from the mid 90’s.

    I was stoked when I found this site…..liquid/dub..all the vocals, quality and class, it’s all been so refreshing but…..the MC thing is whack as FUCK.

    Very few MC’s should even be in the same room much less on the same stage as these dj/producers while they throw down these sets. 99% of the time it just doesn’t fit and it makes no sense that it’s continually forced into this great music.

    Intalex will be here in Phoenix Jan 19th and if a MC gets close to the stage I seriously may end up in jail for shoving a mic in an MC’s ass.
