  1. starts off wicked but gets messier as it goes on.. Im really not feeling this tripple dropping bullshit mixing.. so what if it shows he can mix a tune in in 10 seconds… ok thats fine but it sounds awful, basslines clashing , too much going on. its like listening to drum n bass in a nightclub while wearing headphones with another tune, while a large carnival goes past outside and a circus arrives in town.. TOO MUCH F**KING NOISE

  2. i didnt think much to it not a fan of friction check out the dom and roland mix tho…………… bad ass

  3. Must say I was dissapointed. I downloaded it to hear TS & Conrad ‘Soul Patrol’… heard loads of snippets and wanted to hear a decent cut of it… not that I got a chance, 30 secs in Friction was mixing out again! Respect to his skillz, but not feeling this at all.

  4. FUCKIN HEAVY!!! Literally… The tracklistings sick, the mixing is pretty much bang-on all the way thru… BOO 2 the relentless haters on ere’!!! I can completely understand were they r coming from, but this is as close 2 a set Friction would play in a rave as u can get!!! U must b able 2 appreciate that & take the mix 4 wot it is

  5. I could appreciate this mix if I had eaten a whole load of pills and had the intelligence of a chimpanze with downs syndrome. too much nintendo smurf music and not enough jungle

  6. a. awesome deck skills
    b. exceptional timing
    c. GOOD dancefloor selection
    d. the tunes he has… gosh
    e. holding it tight for 2 hrs
    —————————–
    total: FUCKIN ACE

  7. jus finished listening 2 it , top notch mixing frequent & consitant. friction posseses a very offensive syle which blows clubs away all over the map. Some ppl cant handle this attacking style , fair play ,but you cant deny the ultimate talent friction has, 10/10 the bollox.

  8. usually essential mixes are different than the usual music the person is spinning that nite^^…..examples: portishead, UNKLE, high contrast, etc..

  9. Unknown ‘Gold Digger High Contrast Remix’

total: Move over Jesus we have a new Messiah

this message was brought to you by the letter ‘S’ (for Sarcasm)

  11. you hit it on the head when you said

“too much nintendo smurf music and not enough jungle”

he plays good tunes in the beginning but the rest of the mix is damn smurfy :/

  12. What exactly classes as “nintendo smurf music”??

sounds like someones being too subjective for there own good.

If u cant appreciate that dnb comes in every shape and form, then u dont get wat dnb is about, and should go listen to something else.

  13. NAILBITER!

Holy Moses… perfect timing! Crazee Mix!

check the mix between Fresh – X Project and Dillinja – The Bell at min 69:50 … o_O

  14. Gorilaz ‘Dirty Harry (Remix)’ *tease* Logistics ‘Together (Remix)’

    that was bloody awsome stuff

  15. Danny ‘ What exactly classes as “nintendo smurf music”??

Brainless shit music that sounds like a gameboy game ‘save the princess, collect the gold coins’ wankfest. Its ok if your 14 years old or a braindamaged chimpanzee on pills but come on guys.. any self respecting ‘man’ wouldnt be caught listening to this childish music… how many of you listen to happy hardcore? well now your sneering and laughing, but jump-up drum & bass is nearly as bad these days… boing boing boing bosh bosh honk honk… roll up roll up the circus is in town

  16. so your to mature for this style of drum & bass, come we go ravin in cardiganz & slipperz.

  17. ha ha nice.
I was just pissing around really.. i dont mind the odd bit of jumpup if its done well.. but there is more badly produced drum & bass of this particular style than any other, gen dub n distorted minds stuff .. oh and roni sizes new stuff is absolutely fuckin appalling. Anyways its just so easy to wind up junglists that I couldnt resist… lets hope stuff by Breakage, paradox, teebee, commix, sonic, drifter, klute etc soon gets the recognition it truely deserves and when I tell people that I mix drum & bass I dont have to cringe with embarassment as they look at me as if Id just admitted to raping animals (due to them hearing clowny shit and assuming that this IS drum & bass) when in fact its just a small part of it (thank god)

  18. gosh, huge mix mista friction…

hey felch, no prob giving your opinion but please don’t forget drum’n’bass is a party stuff. So, ok, lots of nintendo shity melodies but da whole stuff keeps excellent for being high on a dancefloor and this is what the majority of people ask a dj to perform on stage, isn’t it?

  19. Again….What exactly classes as “nintendo smurf music”??
    i.e. what producers?

  20. yeh thas true dnb aint made strictly for your bedroom , 10 b&h anda bone 2 pic .

  21. danny – im guessin x projects a good example. Tim more nintendo smurf shit plz m8.

  22. shame its recorded in mono not stereo, would sound a lot clearer and less messy if it was, still its a good mix but i’ve seen him live a number of times and he really is a sight to behold (and hear obv)

  23. I’ve heard alot of djs but despite the fact that some of the tunes aren’t exactly my thing I have to say Friction has come a looong way. Definitely one of the most skilled at mixing dnb that I’ve heard..

And what I wouldn’t do for some of histunes in my iTunes library..

  24. “Influx UK ‘Special Black 2006′”

This can’t be right. I think it should be “The Siren Feat. Audio Angel” from Influx uk.

    nice varieted mix!

  25. Awesome mix, even if you dont like what hes playing his skills are fookin mental. Hadnt heard much of him before… this was a good introduction!!!

Felch, theres enough people that understand and know what dnb is all about – in all its styles so why does it matter what people ‘out of the know’ think?? If they look at you dodgy show them what they dont know!!! Theres a style of dnb for everyone haha

  26. thanks to the capper for this, but i have to say i listened to the first 25 minutes and then i turned it off. what a complete load of BOLLOX. the tracks were so dull and uninteresting, FFS.

  27. if you dont like it then surely you dont have to listen to it either. And guess what…if u dont listen to it then nor do u have to whinge about it. Let peeps come to their own conclusions rather than thinking your own matters!

  28. mr covert Says:
‘if you dont like it then surely you dont have to listen to it either.’

well if you’d have actually read my post, u would have spotted this–>

    joe Says:
‘i listened to the first 25 minutes and then i turned it off.’

and if i want to express my opinion on the set, i will, i dont need anyones permission to do so. and actually son, my opinion does matter, ive been listening to quality jungle since 93, and this set sux.

  29. in fact the tunes are pretty heavy but his party mash up mixing style doesnt seem to be everyones thing.

  30. Its the usual story of the most popular things arent always the best… food has McDonalds, Movies have numerous shite like ‘Big Mummas House’ & ‘Scarey Movie, Shit games like Star Wars and GTA San Andreas sell like hotcakes, and 50 Cent seems to have legions of fans seemingly willing to suck his cock despite the fact he is ex-drug dealing, stupid c**t. and drum & bass has Friction and Andy c. They may not be too the tastes of more discerning people but they are the most popular.. thats the general public for ya.

  31. felch Says:

You know what felch………..YOUR RIGHT MAN.!!!!!

I mean I myself have been trying very hard to get some of these crackhead listeners (not all of you be some ppl on here) to understanding what the fuck is all this HEEP OF GREAT BIG CRAP!!!! That people think is real Drum n’ Bass. I mean with all of this Basslines dominating the soundwaves, clashing bullshit. You’d wonder yourself is there anymore room left for the “Breakbeat” element. This shit has gotten so BAD AND TASTELESS that I myself a true heart “Junglist” (Don’t Hate Faggots) have turned practicly away alot of other producers shit……………Even Roni Size who a Bleeping Sellout!!!!!

  32. RONI SIZE DOESN’T EVEN MAKE GOOD ACID DN’B ANYMORE!!!!!

I have turned my musical attention to Mr. Dev Pandya aka Paradox. Who i personally think will reshape this whole dn’b sence. With Drumfunk.

@#%$ THE CRACKHEAD HATERS………..IT’S ALL ABOUT THE DRUMFUNK!!!!!

  33. Dear R2K+DMD aka Boom Selector aka Mr. Akai aka Hate me now aka Broom Protector, Spoon Collector, … Do you really need different Nicks for hating and for constructice criticism? Dude there is no Black or White in the game of DnB, pick what you are feeling, buy the stuff you like to promote, play it out loud and screw the rest.

I hope you know wich posts made you banned again, if not: ITS THE ONES THAT GO LIKE THIS!!!!!………. `?)=*ÜÄ!!111, seen?

… One more thing: Paradox has been there for aaaaaages dude, i love his stuff but hes not gonna reshape anything. Do your homework, bye.

  34. i have listened this mix about 20 times! amazing! i’ll be looking forward for new Friction mixes :)

  35. unbelievable…..that’s what he mixed last saturday in the klock11 in weimar germany…hes the sickest guy i’ve ever seen

  36. Superb.

Non haters also look out for big bad bass mix(valve, 2005), selections less on the tech/”Nintendo,” side of things

  37. fan-freakin-tubular set, man.

I agree that alot of the raw, visceral energy that had once graced the finest jungle vinyl is now replaced by “uplifting” cheesy melodies, but theres a time and place for everything. If i want to dance, i’ll listen to cheesy dnb and happy hardcore and goa and stuff; if i want some actual music, ie with depth and atmosphere and quality, I’ll pop on some Aphex Twin, Autechre, Lexaunculpt, Boards of Canada, hell, even some of the classics (Kraftwerk). It’s all good if its in its right setting, i guess.

  38. Some nice tunes on this mix noted alot of them.

The mixing is very fast but does sound a bit messy tbh.

Seams as though he’s tryin to better andy’s essential mix but doesnt come even near.

    EQ!!!

  39. Ed Friction is a F’N awesome producer, and his DJ’ing isn’t so bad either. However, despite the great tune selection (being objective about it), the mixing isn’t all that. I’ve seen Friction do it better many a time. He is one of the best on three decks, but again we come back to the whole him vs. Andy C situation. Honestly… who cares? Both are DJs that are well suited for the dancefloor and have been rocking it for many many years. Yes, many people have this whole idea that drum and bass has gone to shite, and I can agree if we were talking 4 to 5 years ago. Everything got too techy, there was no soul – NO INNOVATION – that made me want to go with it. I was still a hardcore junglist, but it was stale. Any TRUE junglist will know this. Right now is a good time for drum and bass. There are a lot of quality producers out there doing there thing, and many great tracks are coming out weekly. Quality, however, is in the eye of the beholder. Until that notion is accepted, nobody’s going to get it. Duh.
